St Austell Concert

A St Austell church resounded with music last Saturday when it played host to Cornwall's premier string orchestra.

The St Mewan Sinfonia played to a large and appreciative crowd at St Augustine of Hippo Church to raise money for the church and for Mount Edgcumbe Hospice. The concert, which was the Sinfonia's first performance in the spacious modern church, raised a staggering £879.75.

The programme included a beautiful Vivaldi concerto for four violins and a selection of works by Elgar, Warlock, Ireland, Lully and Rameau. After the concert the musicians were treated to a glass of wine and some tasty nibbles, kindly prepared by members of the church.

A spokesman for St Augustine's said on Monday that they had received a great deal of positive feedback about the concert from those who had attended. They also said that it was more than likely that the Sinfonia would be invited back to play at the church again in the future.
