About us
Profile
St Mewan Sinfonia is Cornwall's premier string orchestra, directed by David Frost. Apart from playing for enjoyment, the orchestra aims to raise money for charity by giving concerts of classical music. It is a registered charity (no. 1021171), and all proceeds from the concerts are given to the charity for which the concert is being held. The orchestra rehearses throughout the year, and holds a series of concerts during the summer months. The repertoire is new each year, and this year we are excited to be playing music by Bach, Grieg and Janacek, amongst others.

History
St Mewan Sinfonia started as a string quartet in the 1970's and grew into a string orchestra by 1974. The first rehearsal venue, St Mewan Church Hall gave the string orchestra its name. Over the years, the orchestra has grown in size, and the venue has changed to reflect that. Many of the members have been playing in the orchestra for at least 12 years, and a few have been playing with the orchestra since it first grew from a string quartet. The Friends of the Orchestra was formed in 1994, and the orchestra very much appreciates the support they give through their interest, concert attendance and generous donations. We hope that the orchestra will continue to give equal pleasure to its players and audiences over the next thirty five years.
